Hi Tim, Peggy and David!  Glad everybody's OK!  David, I'm sorry the furkids aren't doing so well.  Most mornings I never catch anyone on the couch, but lately I've been seeing someone curled up there.  (I can't remember which one.)

Peggy, I know it's been hot in Chicago, (in every possible way).  Strangely, it's been hot here but nowhere near any records.

Tim, as the expression goes, no news is good news.  Or at least, no news is not bad news.

I only noticed this last night, (I'm not particularly observant) but of course, Van Gogh has an imperfect right ear.  What I just noticed was that Piggy seems to have an imperfect ear as well.  You can't see it in the picture, but Piggy's ear, while it seems normal enough, has absolutely no hair on it.  I mean, I noticed the ear from day one, but it only occurred to me last night, that both of them have something going on with one ear.  Neither one has a problem with them.  Neither one seems bothered or worried about it.

I'm amazed at the sheer amount of food Piggy goes through.  I had to check very carefully about what they should or shouldn't eat.  Carrots and apples are fine and he really seems to like them.  There's also a special guinea pig food mix he gets, but what he really goes through, is Timothy hay.  I'm staggered at the amount he eats.  It's so inexpensive though, that cost isn't even a consideration, unlike the cat's food, as her favorite food is pretty high.

Piggy's room only gets indirect sunlight and not much of that, so every day I try to get him out and put him in a big pen in the living room.  Still, he has a box that he spends almost all his time in, unless Karly gets in the pen with him, in which case he comes out and often climbs all over her.  I generally lock the cat up in the bedroom when I get Piggy out, which she doesn't seem to mind.  (She's often locked in there when I have to go somewhere.)  I'm not sure the cat would hurt him, but I'm not sure she wouldn't, so just to be on the safe side, if the cat isn't locked in the other room, I keep a very close eye on them.  Piggy doesn't seem the least bit afraid, and Van Gogh seems mostly curious.  John

Oh, forgot. And Orion is close to blind with the cataracts now.

Here is a picture from last weekend of (left to right) Orion, Apollo, Andromeda and Nova. Pardon the bins, we are still waiting to get the floor repaired from the flood (late next week I hope it starts).

Little Piggy shares a love of carrots with me! :)

Hi Tim, glad you are okay!

Peggy, nope, no travel plans at all right now.

Cats here: Orion is still in a lot of back pain. We are trying different drugs and I inject him with adequan every 3 days now. He really has a hard time walking now. He has issues getting in litter boxes so I have been trying to make it easier. Now he has an issue where he stands in the litter he just peed on, so he will sometimes have bricks on his feet. It is hard to get them off as I have to hold him partially over the sink and use a lot of water, which he hates and it can hurt his back. So I have been moving to wood pellet litter as they do not make bricks, but the pellets that come out of the box hurt when we stop on them (if we do not see them, otherwise we sweep several times a day now).

Andromeda seems to be having a pooping issue. She has been dribbling diarrhea so may be plugged. We have given her some miralax (as per vet) and have a vet visit scheduled Saturday early morning.

Nova continues his pica love of plastic and has started to try to eat pee pads (under cat beds), so I am having to swap them out for material ones that are washable not disposable ines that he will munch on.

It is really hitting home that we have 4 senior cats now (Perseus is 7) and that Orion is highly likely to not be with us though the remainder of the year. :(

Hi Tim!  Glad all going well for you in Knoxville!

Chicago had it's warmest summer on record this year.  Today is so nice and cool and great to have the a/c off for a change.

David, I'm sure you won't be coming to Chicago for work this year, right?

Little Piggy is simply adorable, John.

Everyone have a safe and healthy holiday weekend!
