While Halloween was a musical milestone, November 2 was another.  21 years ago yesterday morning I lost Poof.  While it was one of the worst days of my life, the days leading up to it were just as bad, because I knew it was coming.  Nobody could be more loved and nobody could be more missed, and I know everybody here has been through the same thing multiple times.  Thank you all again, for always being here.  John

Thanks Tim.  One of my sweetest cats was left behind when someone moved.  He'd been fixed and declawed, and I just can't imagine anyone simply leaving him.  Even the other cats in the house couldn't leave him alone.  Every time he laid down at least one of the other cats had to snuggle up to him.

Everybody here started getting sick over a week ago and everybody's still got it.  I've got about a month to recover.  My bass player will be gone 2 weekends and 3 places closed up on us.  (Nothing to do with Covid.)  That leaves November completely open.

I've already made a small start on Christmas.  I had to buy Cheri a new vacuum cleaner but I know better than to count that as Christmas.  As usual, she won't tell me what she wants.  The grandkids have taken an unexpected interest in chess games so I've got a couple of them.  They're still not much interested in the rules but with me playing it all the time, that may change.  I did get her older grandson interested a few years ago and he plays a bit.  I think his online rating is around 700.

The furkids are both fine.  For some reason, Van Gogh has stopped sleeping in my face and started sleeping down around my knees.  I figured with the weather getting cooler it might be the other way around.  Maybe my knees are warmer!  John

John,

How are you and everyone there feeling this week? Still sick?

Cheri for Christmas, you should pick a gift that you think she will want (not working related, aka as you know, no vacuum). SOmething nice. I always thought gifts should be just that, GIFTS not WANTS or DEMANDS or DEVICES THAT I WANT YOU TO HAVES. ;)

I wonder what caused the move for Van Gogh. Apollo is still sleeping at my side OR on my chest. I sometimes hate it on my chest because it traps me in the on back position (I tend not to get them off me because I like the want to be there). Now that the time changed happened, of course cats do not understand it is supposed to be earlier, so Apollo is waking and screaming on me or on the bed at 3:30am now. Ignoring him does not work, that mkes him scream all the more. Petting him makes him come on my chest and if I stop he screams from there. So I am getting up about 3:45 now, watching a bit of television, then giving Apollo is meds by 4ish and taking my shower and heading to the gym.

Cats, the natural alarm clock!

Everybody is still sick but I think we're starting to get past it.  Time change or not, I think I need a 25 hour day just to get everything done.  Van Gogh and Piggy don't seem to notice anything about the time change.  I just go to bed when I go to bed and get up when I get up.  There's nothing too regular about my schedule.  I usually get to bed about the time you get up but I never know how long I'm going to sleep, so the furkids are thankfully, very patient with me.

I got a little worried about Piggy this week.  He went through 10 times the water he usually does. (He usually drinks almost none at all.)  So I've stepped up his vegetables.  He's been eating tons of hay but there's no water at all in that, which may be why he's drinking so much.  I'm sure it's better for him to get his water through his vegetables.  He seems to be acting just fine.  It's just that the amount of water he went through was a shock.

I made the mistake one year of getting Cheri something useful, a Dust Buster and an electric knife.  That's not all she got of course, there was other stuff, but she took them back.  At this point, I'm completely lost as to what to get her, and I ask her for suggestions every day.  I wouldn't ask, but I just don't have a clue.  Me, I'm easy.  A book or anything chess related is easy enough.  Last year she got me a coffee maker which is gurgling away even as I type this.  We've already got a big start on the grandkid's Christmas.  They're really easy.  Her oldest grandson is driving so I want to get him a dash-cam.  I'm really sold on having one in case of an accident.  Cheri though, she's still a mystery.  John
