I really am sorry. There's an old poem somewhere on the internet called "We Chose Tears". I haven't looked it up in years because I can't see it without the tears coming. It's about how we chose to love living things that just wear out too fast. Just thinking about it makes my eyes watery.
All my furkids are doing wonderfully but it was a tragic Easter for the grandkids. Of course we had an early Easter for them here with toys and candy and of course, the egg hunt. Karly wrote out notes to the Easter Bunny the night before, and that night at 3:00 AM, the "Easter Bunny" was hiding eggs and setting out toys and candy while they slept.
That night though, we had to take them back to their parents to have the real Easter morning with them. We always take armloads of food and goodies down there when we drop them off. They live a mile or so east of me where we almost always see deer crossing their road. As close as they live though, their location is fairly isolated. They had 2 dogs living there, both large, friendly, jump-on-you types. As we were lugging groceries to their home though, Karly came out in tears running over to hug me. A neighbor had shot one of their dogs while the kids were staying with us. The dogs occasionally stray into the neighbor's yard. I don't know if they cause any trouble there or not but they really don't like it.
Well, I really don't know what you do or say in a situation like that, except to return the hug and say how sorry you are, and to remind her that any time she feels like coming over to spend time with us, she's welcome. Between Claire and a big dog named "Buddy", just a lot of pain to go around this weekend. John
