Being in the 90s for weeks was bad enough but this weekend we go into the hundreds and it's supposed to stay there for a week at least.  Part of the highway on the west side of town buckled a couple of days ago and a few days before that I noticed a concrete curb alongside the road buckled.  Part of my yard, (especially the ditches) needs mowed and part of it is dry and brown.  I considered mowing but as hot as it is and in the shape most of my yard is in, I thought...naw.  As hot as it is, I'm smart enough to take a lot of breaks, but as dry as the yard is, I'm not doing it.  John

Not in that heat! Go get a nice ice tea and sit and relax! Wait till it cools down!

It doesn't take much to talk me out of mowing the yard, even when the weather is nice.  If I used a rider, I couldn't care less about the weather but I push mow it and it takes hours, so yeah, not mowing in 100 degree heat.

What I did do though, was took the grandkids to the park.  There were no other kids there but I was surprised at the number of older people walking the hiking trail.  Myself, I just sat at a picnic table under a shelter.  They only played for an hour or so and were ready to go.  Then Cheri wanted tacos so we went out to dinner.  When we got back, I got out the shears and cut down some bushes growing alongside the house.  They seemed to be doing unexpectedly well in this dry weather.  By that time it had gone down to the 80s so while I did work up a sweat, I didn't work that long or that hard.  John

So why not get a riding mower? I bet a good used on woulf be only a few hundred and it would make it so much easier, no?

Part of that is, riders in this area are in the thousands and I'm still a little tight fisted with money, unless it's something Cheri wants.  Another is, I think it looks nicer when I do it by hand.  Another is that it's the best exercise I ever get.  But I suppose the biggest reason is my own bulheadedness.  I swore a long time ago that I'd do it as long as I could.  I don't like doing it but I still can.  When it comes to the point where it's just too hard, I'll start hiring it done.  That, I'm seriously considering.  John
