Yesterday afternoon at about 4:00 I was outside to meet the kids when they got off the school bus. The bus drove off and Karly was telling me about her day when a big deer came bounding by. Karly started yelling, (not out of fear but out of excitement). The doe came out from behind the neighbor's house to the east and was running west at full speed, across the street and across the north side of our yard, about 40 feet from us. Our neighbors to the west have a 6 foot, wooden fence running around their back yard. She made a small swerve and ran around behind it, disappearing.
Karly had never seen a deer so close and was amazed at how big she was. And she was big, a full grown doe. I waited for more, as there are usually 3 or 4 together, but she was the only one. It was a rare and special treat. I only wish she hadn't been in such a hurry. John
