Cheri gave her car to her grandson, and at the same time, the water pump went out on mine.  It'll be a week before I can get it fixed.  (Everything happens at once.)  So today, I guess we plan to get a new car.  That'll pretty much wipe me out and removes all doubt about whether I should go back to work.  She's already done some car shopping and a lot of online research.  I don't know yet what we'll come home with.

Between taking Cheri to the hospital in Columbia 3 times and Jefferson City once, plus the work I had to do on the house, and my car breaking down, the grandkids wearing me out, it's been a busy November and I'd really like a break.  Wish me luck!

You will get a new car or "new" used one?

I forgot to mention replacing a gas water heater that took pretty much all day because we had to tear a door out and replace it!

Anyway, we didn't get the car yesterday so we're going back out this afternoon.  It won't be a new one, just new to us.  She's got a couple in mind, both have about 64,000 miles.  We won't have to borrow from the bank, we'll just pay for it.  Car prices are insane right now but we're a mobile family.  The one car would be enough but at times like this when my car is broke down with a bad water pump, and I can't get it fixed till next week, that complicates things.  John

I just had to get a $550 repair on my suv yesterday. :/ Prices for new and used are insane.

The local Nissan dealer has a "contest" running. THey got a list of owners of 10+ year old cars from the DMV and sent out the contest forms. Of course EACH form has a winning #, they just do not tell you what you got. Si, why the hell not, I had nothing better to do over lunch so I went with my claim form. Of course they try to hard sell you on a new car and boy did they try. I do not want a new suv or truck, I just wanted to see if I even got a cash prize. I figure IF I did get the 25k grand prize, yeah, I may get a second suv and put in the rest. But once they knew they had no hope of me buying or leasing, I wond a cheap pair of ipod knock-offs (so cheap ther eis no upc on the box and they are called i7pods). Rolls eyes. I tossed them on my seat and I am sure I'll just donate them to the shelter this month.

Yeah, I've got quite a few car shopping horror stories.  We'll usually wait till the lots are closed so nobody will come out and bother us.  Of course, now the thing is to not put the prices on the cars.  They come out and ask you how much you can spend and if you tell them, of course the cheapest car on the lot will be that price.  We started test driving cars at one lot that has the non-negotiable prices on the windshields, but they were all at the extreme end of what we wanted to pay so...still looking.

The water pump is out on my car.  I just replaced it about a year ago and it was $400.  Can't even guess what it'll be this time.  Until I get it fixed we've been using the grandson's car, (which we recently gave him).  That's what prompted Cheri to want another car.  She's the chief shopper in the house and she goes somewhere every day.

Once in a while we'll run across stuff like those iPod knockoffs and stuff like that ends up going to the grandkids.  John
