Perseus was on the couch today, but what was that around his neck?  John

Laugh. A few weeks ago we noticed his right front leg had a bald patch and took him to the vet. Their belief was he licked it raw (it was larger by the time he went). They did a test for ring worm, though he is indoor only. The black light test showed it was not. Mean time to prevent him licking it larger we had to put him in a special collar. A cone would be too mean and this one works great to stop him licking the spot. I noted this weekend new fuzz on the spot, so fur is coming back. :)

Oh, I'd never seen one like that.  Kid Notorious used to lick raw spots on herself.  Was never sure why except possibly nervousness because of the other cats in the house, but they never seemed to bother her otherwise.  She finally just stopped doing it.  Van Gogh on the other hand, never licked herself raw but did give me ringworm on the hand when we first got her.  Was easy enough to get rid of and it's never been a problem since.

On the local front, we went from a couple of months of drought and 100+ temperatures to a couple of weeks of rain every day and temperatures in the 90s.  Now it's just steamy and the yard went from dead to overgrown.

Mexican family moved in the house north of me.  No real interraction though as they don't speak English.  The people west of me moved out.  Hated to see them go.  Very nice people.  I bought his riding lawnmower just before they moved.  (I have a big yard.)

I haven't seen Feather for weeks so of course, I've been worried about him.  John

This is the collar: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/well-and-good-inflatable-recovery-cat-collar-3498596

We are still running cool here. THis weekend we had 3 days of 70f high. Today it will be 80f. I dont mind the cool here, it is a nice change.

So you are going to be using a riding mower now?

Feather could be staying in cool places if it is so hot out?

Feather could very well be hanging out at home during the hot weather.  I think he lives in the few trees to the east of me where they tore down that old house.  With the drought being so long and hot I didn't see many animals out, and they didn't see me out that much either.  Temperatures even in the high 80s are a relief now and after such a severe drought, now we're getting non-stop rain.  Yesterday was around 90 but I knew I had to mow because there was 90% chance of rain today, and it did.

I think the yard looks nicer when I hand mow it, and it's probably better for me to do it, but it is a big yard and it could be a little dangerous if it's really hot and I don't take it pretty easy.  I still have to hand mow some of it.  The ditches are a little too steep for the rider, and there are a lot of things it's hard to get close to.  The house, a fire hydrant, stump, tree, bush, clothes line, the shed, mail box, all the stuff you can't get close to, which still takes about half the time.  The big part though, the rider can do in a lot less time.  Yesterday, Cheri insisted on using the rider, which cut the time down even more, and I think maybe she had fun doing it.  John

Do you have trees in your yard? Have you considered putting up a squirrel box for feather that he can live in?
