For 2 nights now, raccoons have been in our garbage cans.  That's alright with me.  They're welcome to anything they can find and I don't mind picking up a few things that they throw out in the search.  I can't for the life of me get Cheri to stop throwing food in the garbage.  Old potatoes, moldy bread, stuff like that.  Any time I see it I throw it in the yard.  There's no telling what eats what out of the yard but it has to be racoons to get into those garbage cans.  They're the only animals big enough to climb up there and get the lids open.  Either way, they're welcome to whatever they can find.  John

I used to get opossum as well as raccoons and mice on my back porch in Illinios. I liked putting out snacks and setting up the camera on night vision to see what would come. SOmetimes cats came too.

When I had all the ferals, (I think I only have 2 right now) I used to leave them out a bucket of food 24 hours a day, but one night I saw the biggest opossum I've ever seen eating right along with them.  I hated to begrudge the Opossum any food but feeding 22 cats around the clock was expensive enough, so I had to start bringing the food in at night.  John
