Christmas

Yesterday afternoon I fed Taylor then started pulling Christmas stuff out of the shed, which made Taylor a little nervous as I walked back and forth.  I should have brought stuff in then fed her.  We won't be decorating yet but yesterday was such a nice day, (68) I figured it was a good time to do it.  Cheri complained about me bringing stuff in so early but I explained that it was such a nice day, I figured it would be better to do it now than wait till it was cold and blowing snow and making her do it.  She was only mildly amused.

2 of the things I brought in were hover boards for the kid's Christmas.  They were big, heavy boxes and would be really hard to hide, so I went ahead and wrapped them, the first of 5 things I wrapped.  Cheri is incredible at finding deals and does the Christmas shopping all year.

The grandson got a notice from the government today to register for the draft.  He's 20 and I would have thought they'd have warned him years ago.  I remember doing it before I turned 18.  I still carry my draft card, although I'd think that things would have to be fairly hopeless before they'd bother with somebody like me.  John

Good that you had a nice day to bring the things in! It has been in the 20's here and it snowed onver the weekend. Not a lot, but enough to give nice white patina to everything.

I had forgotten about registering for the draft long ago for me too. Lets hope they do not need to call upon us old guys!

After that 68 degree weather it dropped down to the 40s during the day and a little below freezing at night.

The draft had just ended shortly before I had to register and while I planned to join the Navy a year after high school, at least I didn't have to worry about getting drafted.  As it was, just before I joined the Navy I passed the audition to play in Godspell, for more money than I ever imagined.  So, that never happened.  We were told to keep our draft cards indefinitely, although I can't imagine why.  If you got drafted and couldn't find your draft card, what were they going to do?  Say you couldn't be drafted and send you home?  Anyway, I still have mine and it's a little frazzled from carrying it around for 50 years.  I've even got my old musician's union card from Chicago from about that same time.  It's beginning to dissolve too.  John

Everything is in place, except the large mat.  It was raining today when I went out to feed Taylor, so I pushed the food just under the car so she could stay dry.  She regularly hides under them and I always check to make sure she's not there before I go anywhere.  It's easy to see under our cars so it's not too big a worry.  Mostly I think she stays in the lean-to.  Hopefully she's figured out how warm her house is now.  John
