We've been getting serious storm warnings.  Varying predictions for snowfall, between 4 and 15 inches.  The snow I don't care about, but they also predict freezing rain, maybe reaching over a quarter inch of ice.  That means downed power lines, tree limbs, and nobody is going anywhere.

Storm warnings like that mean everyone is getting out and stocking up.  Cheri went to Wal-Mart for groceries and of course, it was nuts.  They were out of a few things.  Almost no orange juice or chocolate.  On the other hand, they had plenty of meat and milk, which was a little surprising.

Cheri spent about 20 minutes on the phone this afternoon proving her identity to a medical supply company and after jumping through hoops the whole 20 minutes, she found she wasn't eligible for almost a month.  That was irritating enough.  A little later they called her back and she missed the call.  So, she called them back, and they told her pretty much the same thing, except that now she has a $250 deductible, which she didn't have before.  Makes you want to pull your hair out, or somebody's hair, anyway.

I have one last weekend off, the weekend of the big ice storm and single digit temperatures.  I need the money but if I've got to have a weekend off, that's the weekend to do it.  John

Are the weather stuff happening THIS weekend?

Medical companies (be them equipment or insurance) are annoying.

Yes, the weather is already cold but the storm should hit Saturday afternoon.  They keep predicting thicker layers of ice, followed by deeper and deeper snow.  My internet and television has already warned us of possible outages.  I've come to rely way too much on the internet but on those rare times when it goes out, I do have a bunch of movies and a couple of games saved on my computer.  Now, as long as the electricity doesn't go out...  I have gas heat but of course, the furnace runs on electricity!  John

We started with snow, which didn't amount to anything, then went right to freezing rain.  They're closing highways around, which I've never seen before.  Just hoping we don't lose electricity.  John

John, have been keeping my eye on the weather there in Missouri and have wondered how you are doing. Praying you don't lose your power. Hoping Taylor is staying safe and warm. Thankfully, this system is staying south of us here, but we are to get lake affect snow this evening and of course it is bitter cold outside. My big plans for today is to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and the Golden Globes. Stay safe and warm! Peggy and Laila

Huge thanks to David for sending down the house and the heating pads for Taylor.  The cold is supposed to be 7 degrees tonight.  Unexpectedly, the freezing rain only lasted long enough to close highways, cause a bunch of wrecks, and people slid off the road.  I checked the electric lines just a bit ago and there doesn't seem to be any ice hanging on them, which of course, is great news.  The freezing rain though, gave way to a thunder-snowstorm, and it's really coming down.  Snow drifted to just above the bottom of my back door and I had to push it open.  When I stepped out on it I expected to sink down 5 or 6 inches, but I didn't!  It was packed hard!

I threw out some bread for the birds and tried to throw out a little garbage, but the garbage bins were froze shut.  Taylor came running out of the lean-to.  She's usually waiting around the cars, but not this time.  I put food under cover where she usually eats, then a little in front of her house, and more in her house.  She's getting 3 times as much food today as usual.  I wish I could bring the poor kid inside but she still won't get more than a few feet away from me.

If the electricity does go out, I'll crank up the gas oven and light candles.  Of course, my internet would be out but my computer probably has battery for a few hours and I could watch a few movies.  I've always got flashlights close by and I could always read by flashlight, or even play chess on my phone.  My phone battery lasts a long time.

The grocery stores were about empty yesterday.  I swear people think this will last a month.  But I'm well stocked up for food and so are the furkids.  All the restaurants and everything else in town is closed, which I'd never seen before.  At any rate, I have no reason to go anywhere for the next 6 days so, I ain't going.    John
