A couple of days ago Cheri was in the hospital to get an MRI, just checking to see whether her cancer had come back. We have to keep a close eye on it for years because it's a type that tends to recur. For 2 days we were on pins and needles waiting to find out whether it had come back. I tried to reassure Cheri that we've been keeping such a close eye on it that even if it did come back, getting rid of it shouldn't be anywhere near the problem it was the first time. Still, we were both pretty worried about it.
Today we had to go back and find out the results. Cheri of course, wanted me to be there and to listen to the results in case there was anything she didn't understand and I'd want to be there anyway.
She'd gained some weight, which for a cancer patient is considered a good thing. There were the usual questions. Any pain? Does she smoke? Does she drink? Does she feel safe at home? Is she abused? Those last 2 questions, I'd have thought they'd want me to wait outside for but no, they asked her with me right there. After being there for about an hour, the doctor finally came in. All clear! All her blood numbers were good. No sign of cancer at all. What a relief!
The only minor concern was a cyst on one of her kidneys that seemed to have enlarged a bit, so she has to go in next week for a sonogram to look at it. A cyst is a heck of a lot easier to deal with than cancer, if she has to deal with it at all.
We were so relieved, I took her, her Mom and the grandkids out for a celebratory dinner. We shouldn't have to worry about this again for 4 to 6 months. I'm hoping for a better night's sleep than I've had for a while. John
