The Van Gogh Trap

Last night, about an hour after I went to bed, I heard Van Gogh screeching as though she were in some kind of fight.  I got up with my flashlight and went all through the house but couldn't find her.  Nothing else could have gotten in or out so I thought maybe she was after a mouse or something.  Nothing to do but go back to bed.  Another hour later, another screech so, back up with the flashlight.  This time I saw Van Gogh sitting in the kitchen, but nothing else.  Back to bed and a minute later Van Gogh climbed in bed with me in her usual spot, in front of my face.

All the ruckus woke Cheri up and she went to the kitchen, about 6:00 AM.  (Still dark.)  She came back a minute later and told me that there was a glue trap under the kitchen table and it looked like something was stuck under it.  She figured it might be a mouse so it was up to me to deal with it.  A glue trap holds tight enough to tear off a mouse leg, but with a little cooking oil and a lot of patience, you can get them loose unharmed, if a little greasy.  So, I got up again and looked.  (We use glue traps for all the flies, and Van Gogh knows to leave them alone, from hard experience.)  There was indeed a glue trap under the table.  Stuck under it was a napkin, a plastic bag, and a huge amount of Van Gogh fur.  She had climbed up on a table and accidentally sat or laid on one.  It must have taken her an hour to get it off.  After than, she acted as if nothing had happened.  John

LOL Van Gogh learned early on to stay away from those things.  In all these years I've had to pull them off of her twice, always leaving some gray fur behind.  She doesn't usually get up on the table though so I guess she wasn't expecting one to be there.  Everybody in the house has been stuck to one at some point, (except Piggy and the dog).  I walked by and the tie on my robe got stuck on one about a week ago.  Man, those things hold tight!

Last night about 1:00 AM I went out to feed Taylor.  There was a distant rumble of thunder, which made Taylor hide under the car.  The whole sky would light up occasionally with unseen lightning.    While sitting there, I was shocked to see a fox running by, maybe 60 feet away.  I stayed out there maybe 10 minutes or so, then went back inside.  It still didn't rain for hours.  Taylor knows where she can stay dry though.  Taylor was back again today and tonight.  John
