I finally ran out of a big bag of Petsmart chicken and rice, and a couple of days ago I opened a small bag of Nurto chicken and brown rice for older cats, just to see how it went over.  It did not go over at all.  Neither Van Gogh nor Taylor liked it.  Taylor would reluctantly eat it but Van Gogh wouldn't touch the stuff.  So, I opened a big bag of Meow Mix and both went right for it.  I've always let my cats graze all day on dry food, with a can of wet food every day.  Of course, I couldn't let Taylor graze all day because of the other cats around, racoons and whatever else might come around.  I swear though, Van Gogh seemed to gain weight on the Petsmart stuff.  I think she gained quite a bit and that couldn't go on.  John

I think you can return the nutro at the store if the cats won't eat it. Try mixing a little of it into what they like.

With Van Gogh, I poured what she likes over the Nutro, but she hasn't eaten down to it yet.  With Taylor I was a little more experimental, putting out a pile of Nutro next to the Meow Mix.  Taylor went straight to the Meow Mix first, but later on both piles were gone.  John

Have you ever tried Instinct cat food? I have been giving Angel a piece of this each meal:https://instinctpetfood.com/products/raw-boost-mixers-digestive-health-freeze-dried-cat-food-topper/

She really likes it. I tried this one too: https://instinctpetfood.com/products/raw-boost-indoor-health-chicken-dry-cat-food/ but she was not excited. That was when I first got her. With Hills reformulating her normal dry, she is less excited about that, so I may try the other food again.

I hadn't run across "Instinct".  I got some of my nutritional information from "Cat Fancy" magazine, which strongly advised any food have taurine in it, (which I was amazed to find was a major ingredient in Red Bull).  Meow Mix is apparently like cat junk food, but it seems to be everybody's favorite, clear back to when I was taking care of the ferals.  That's why I've been trying to supplement the dry food with the canned food.  Van Gogh loves the stuff with extra gravy and constantly pesters me for it.  John

The Instinct diet I get Angel seems to have taurine in it: full list of information. I does not surprise me they like junk food, people do too. ;)
