Internet

I usually check in here after midnight and again in the afternoon.  Last night as I was about to check in, the internet dropped.  The internet and cable TV all dropped out at 12:20 AM.  It stayed out until I went to bed about 3:30 AM.  So, I hooked my computer up to the television and watched DVDs of "Lost In Space" all night.  My internet provider is not what I would rate as very reliable.  It usually happens in the middle of the night when I suppose they aren't worried about the rare oddballs like me.

Used to being connected to the world around the clock, it's a weird feeling suddenly being cut off.  It reminds me a lot of when I was a kid in the 60s, and every television station we could get (that would be 3 or 4 stations) went off at midnight or !:00 AM.  But even then we could turn on a radio and be reassured that the world hadn't ended.  Ironically, I don't have a radio!  John

John...you brought back some memories regarding television stations shut down around midnight...we were left watching static dots...or maybe some striped picture...didn't they play the national anthem too??? It can be upsetting when the internet goes down...we are so accustomed to it.. life can be difficult when it happens.

I couldn't sleep tonight...so I'm here on the internet reading the news, playing a game or two, hoping ill get bored and head back to bed. Anyway, thanks for the memories.

Patty

Yup! I remember my old BW set by my bed and hearing that national anthem, then the test pattern came up and the 6 hou long tone. :) Radio was our friend in the early morning. I remember when we got cable in the early 80's and things were on all night! WOW.

Yes, every night at 12:00 or 1:00 AM, the 3 or 4 stations we got went off the air, usually to the national anthem or some inspirational message.  Now I get thousands of round-the-clock channels, 98% of which I never watch, but I still pay for, including a music channel that plays no music, a history channel that has no history, and a learning channel that doesn't teach anything.  John
