Well, last night was one for the books.  I had to work up by Kansas City last night.  After an hour we took a break, and everybody's phones were going off and the tornado sirens were blairing.  In a minute, the storm hit.  Hard winds and torrential rainfall with lots of lightning.  The storm came from behind the strip-mall, and as the front had a covering, we were able to stand outside and watch the storm.  Being "bike night", the bikers weren't interested in trying to ride home through it, so they pulled their bikes up on the covered sidewalk.  Within the next hour it was over.

About that time Cheri texted, saying our electricity was out.  It was 12:30 when we were packed up and headed home, and all the way I could se lightning all around.

When I got back to Sedalia, everything was all lit up, so I figured everything must be OK.  I decided to get gasoline on the way home so I turned off the highway and when I got there...dark.  Just dark.  The gas station had no electricity.  So, I turned toward another gas station closer to home...dark.  All the back streets were covered with sticks and leaves.  No street lights and no house or apartment lights.

Then I got home, about 2:00, and there was a faint light coming from the bathroom.  No doubt, candle light.  Strangely, no cats.  Inside, Cheri had the kitchen and living room lit with candles.  (Not very effective candles.)  When I get home from work, I'm usually exhausted, but never really sleepy, so I sit up a few hours watching videos and of course, checking in here.  Well, with no electricity, that wasn't going to happen.  I ended up watching a movie on the computer and about an hour into the movie, I just went to bed.  Not wanting to get into the refrigerator, I hadn't had a bite to eat all day.

A truck woke me up this morning about 10:30 and I was hoping we had electricity.  We didn't.  This was the first time since I've lived here that the electricity has been off over an hour.  12 hours after it went out, the electricity finally came on.  No apparent wind damage outside.  Next step, go through the refrigerator to see what might be ruined.

A well insulated refrigerator, most everything was OK.  Ice cream was ruined.  There was some questionable ham and turkey that got fed to the cats who by now, were waiting on the meal they missed last night.  Thankfully, almost everything was OK.  And now, I'm reconnected to the world.  John

Thank you!  Yes, we're all fine, and it only took me 5 and a half hours to reset all the clocks.  John

Wow, I assume something hit some transformers and it took time to fix. Glas no tornado at work and power is on again!

Cheri said she heard 3 or 4 explosions, that sounded like transformers going off.  I'm just surprised it was off so long.  In the last place I lived, the electric cables were underground, but they'd still go off whenever water leaked into some of the access covers, which happened once in a great while.  But I'd never had it go off this long before.  John
