I thought about that. I'm sure it bothered the adults more than it bothered me at the time but over 50 years later, I still have a vivid memory of it. I've often thought about the poor carhop who was inevitably told to go out and replace it. It was a clear plastic bag and you could see every fly in it. To be full though, it must have been effective and if it had been an opaque bag it would have been less noticeable. I'm really surprised I never saw it anywhere else, except of course, nobody is going to want to replace it. John
ICK! A bag filled with flies??? I would hate to be they guy to pull it down and tie it closed!

Once I'd heard of it, I started noticing them everywhere. In front of restaurants, on people's porches, especially wherever people ate food. I guess I just never noticed them before. When I was a kid back in the early 1960s, we used to stop at an old style A&W, where they had carhops and left the trays on your window, much like Sonic does now. Off to one side of the parking lot was a fan mounted on a post about 4 feet tall, and the fan was blowing into about a gallon plastic bag. That plastic bag would be full of flies. Seemed to work very well, though it wasn't much to look at!
I never heard of that one before! Funny! I do not know of any good tricks for flies at all, except wildly flinging your arms around like a lunatic, and even that does little good. ;)
My guess is, if somebody has them and they don't hit a deer, they swear they work. I wouldn't think deer in a deer park would be used to them but it is a question I never thought of. It reminds me of that old trick of placing a penny in a bag of water and hanging it up to keep flies away. My brother's barbecues were always plagued with flies so he tried it as an experiment, and has several good pictures of flies actually landing on the thing. In fact, it seemed to draw them! But anyone who hangs one up and doesn't have a lot of flies, will swear they work. John
Hmm, yet people claim they work I assume? Eh, I can see why they would not, if a lot of cars have them the sound is always there and they get used to it?
