Last night my internet went out about midnight, and stayed out all night long.  Tonight my electricity went out about 9:30 and stayed out for an hour and a half.  I looked outside and it looked like the whole south side of the city might be out, but I could still see light from the north shining up on the low clouds.  Was weird with all the street lights and house lights out.  The Christmas tree and everything else was just dark.  The grandson was working downtown at a restaurant/bar and said their lights flickered a few times, stayed out for about 30 seconds, then came back on.

I'm set up for at least a few hours with no electricity or internet, (long as my computer battery lasts).  Of course, the furnace doesn't run without electricity so I was wondering about that.  The youngest grandson came in the room, lit with his cellphone, and just said, "Really?"  We lit a candle and proceeded to watch movies on my computer.  He loves a series from a small studio in Nebraska, called "Cosmic Cat", so we watched that for about a half hour and he fell asleep.  The electricity came back on just in time for me to catch the "Twilight Zone" on television.  It's the one show I try never to miss.

Apparently a pickup truck hit an electric pole and burst into flames.  With something like that, I'm kind of surprised the electricity was only out an hour and a half and a little surprised that it knocked out such a large area.  I couldn't see a single house or street light anywhere.  No word yet on the driver of the truck or the cause of the wreck.  John

I am sure they move fast when power goes down, especially in winter. How often have you had power loss for more than a few hours?

Have they had the same cat on Cosmic cat the whole time? I see it is an older series and if they are sill making them...

I didn't know why the electricity went out but almost every time it does, it's because somebody runs into an electric pole.  What surprised me about how fast it came back on was because the truck that hit the pole burst into flames, which surely complicated things, although I didn't know it at the time.  There were 2 people in the truck.  One was taken to a hospital and the other took off running for unknown reasons.

I was told that "Cosmic Cat" was out years ago and was a comic book for a while.  The series I watch has only been around a couple of years.  There's only a new episode every 6 months or so.  To find it I search Youtube for William Hedges.  It's based heavily around the old series "Lost In Space".  I love it as much as the Grandkids.  John

This has been a crazy week for staying in touch with the outside world.  First the internet went out for a good 12 hours, then the electricity went out, then the internet and cable.  Again this morning, the internet and cable went out for several hours.  I'm starting to lose track.

I've got a lot of movies stored on my computer that I can always watch.  I usually hook the computer up to the television, although of course, when the electricity goes out, it's strictly movies on the computer, and that will only last the few hours my battery will hold out.

The city is digging around the edges of my yard burying some kind of pipes or cables, I don't know what, but I don't think that has anything to do with my connections.  At least, I don't think it does.  John

Perhaps they are putting down fiber cable?

I wondered about that.  John
