Last night my internet went out about midnight, and stayed out all night long. Tonight my electricity went out about 9:30 and stayed out for an hour and a half. I looked outside and it looked like the whole south side of the city might be out, but I could still see light from the north shining up on the low clouds. Was weird with all the street lights and house lights out. The Christmas tree and everything else was just dark. The grandson was working downtown at a restaurant/bar and said their lights flickered a few times, stayed out for about 30 seconds, then came back on.
I'm set up for at least a few hours with no electricity or internet, (long as my computer battery lasts). Of course, the furnace doesn't run without electricity so I was wondering about that. The youngest grandson came in the room, lit with his cellphone, and just said, "Really?" We lit a candle and proceeded to watch movies on my computer. He loves a series from a small studio in Nebraska, called "Cosmic Cat", so we watched that for about a half hour and he fell asleep. The electricity came back on just in time for me to catch the "Twilight Zone" on television. It's the one show I try never to miss.
Apparently a pickup truck hit an electric pole and burst into flames. With something like that, I'm kind of surprised the electricity was only out an hour and a half and a little surprised that it knocked out such a large area. I couldn't see a single house or street light anywhere. No word yet on the driver of the truck or the cause of the wreck. John
