I had to go out of town about 40 miles yesterday.  On the way back I could see it was dark, blue-gray over Sedalia.  Just a few miles out of town I ran into it.  It rained so hard I slowed to about 50, and that was pushing it.  In town, streets were partially flooded and you had to go into the other lane to get around it.  Not really a problem though.

Speaking of "when it rains it pours", things have been crazy here the last 2 weeks.  2 weeks ago we were supposed to rip out and replace the kitchen floor, but the day before the guy came over to help, he went into the hospital with a kidney stone!  Another week goes by and he's OK to go at it.  In that time, our washer broke down.  I took it apart just to get the door open but the problem was the drain pump and rather than tear into that, we decided to junk it and get another washer.  It was all I had to unhook that monster and wrestle it out of the house.  Rather than run out and buy a new one, we're going to wait and redo the utility room floor too, and no sense bringing in another washer until that's done.

Just emptying the kitchen was a gargantuan task.  Refrigerator, stove, and a giant wooden hutch all had to come out, along with a thousand little things, including Cheri's enormous collection of amber "sandwich" glass.  Then 2 layers of carpet came up and underneath, well, I'd never seen a floor like it.  There was a layer of particle board, a layer of 70s style wall paneling, a layer of linoleum, then a couple of layers of 1x3 wood slats.  3 hours later, there's only an 8' by 8' hole in the floor, only 6 or 8 inches from the ground underneath.  Cutting up the floor, we nicked the waterline, so that has to be fixed.

Meanwhile, the giant wooden hutch, the kitchen table, the stove and refrigerator are all sitting out in the driveway and we're hoping it doesn't rain again.  John
