As I mentioned in another post, we'll be reflooring our utility room when the kitchen floor is finished and until then, especially since our washing machine conked out, we're going to the laundromat.  It's amazing how many clothes 5 of us go through every day.  Since I was out of town most of yesterday, we didn't go to the laundromat until about 9:30.  There are several all-night laundromats around and at 9:30, we didn't know whether it would be busy or not.  It was, but not too busy.  It took about an hour.

When we got there, I noticed someone laying alongside the building.  (It's a small shopping center and right next to a bookstore I frequent.)  Not a very tall person, she was covered from the knees up to the top of her head.  Around her were several bottles of soda and water and a box of Ritz crackers.  Homelessness has always existed in Sedalia, but in the last year it's become a lot more obvious.  In the past, the homeless usually lived in tents in little enclaves outside of town in the woods.  Now it's more apparent around town.

In the hour that we were there, a lot of people came and went.  When we were leaving, about 10:30, she had covered herself more completely, and there were several new bags of food from McDonald's and Wendy's.  I dropped a bunch of quarters next to her, (got to have quarters at the laundromat) and we left.  Wishing her well, and if we see her again, I'll be sure to leave more quarters.  John

Is it hot out? If so I am surprised she is covered liek that, but I have no idea what is best to do in that situation.

It was in the 70s at that time of night.  I think keeping her head covered was a matter of anonymity.  It would have been hard for me to sleep with cars pulling up and out all night.  There must have been more quiet and private places to sleep than in front of an all-night laundromat.  Then again, people were making sure she wasn't hungry.  John
