Tomorrow is Karly's birthday, and all she apparently wants is clothes.  Her favorite store is now "Ross".  It couldn't be Kohl's which is right across town.  No, it has to be Ross, the nearest of which is 50 miles away.  We usually visit Ross down on the Lake of the Ozarks, which is more like 80 miles away, so I chose to go to the one in Jefferson City at the Capitol Mall.  We usually visit the mall in Columbia when Cheri has to go to the doctor there, which is again, 80 miles away.  They don't have a Ross but they do have a Barnes & Noble, where I usually blow my money.  Capitol Mall has no bookstore, or anything else that interests me, but they do have Ross, which it turns out is much larger than the one on the Lake.

No more interested in Ross than I was in visiting their toilet, I wandered over to the food court, which was hardly worthy of the name.  They had stir fry, Mexican, and a cookie shop.  I sat down to eat 2 overpriced cookies.  Having already walked the entire mall, there was nothing to do but eat my cookies and wait, and wait, and wait.

Both had asked me what the spending limit was and not knowing what to say, I asked that they try to keep it under $100.  It was $108, which was roughly what we spent on her brother.  We went to a Halloween store where we bought nothing, had dinner at a nearby, fairly nice barbecue place, then headed home.  Now, we get ready for Christmas.  John

So funny. Growing up I hated getting clothes on my birthday and Christmas (laugh).

Does she like TJ Maxx? We have both here in town. I greatly prefer TJ Maxx.

I was the same way and I think it was largely a guy-girl thing.  My brother and I couldn't care less about clothes.  We wanted toys!  Karly couldn't care less about toys but she constantly wants new clothes.  Seth on the other hand, wants toys and clothes.  It took me a while to convince Cheri that adults can't pick out kid's clothes.  They have to do that.  It takes away from the surprise but eliminates the disappointment.  Cheri likes clothes, purses and jewelry, neither of which I'd dare pick out.

I used to collect chess sets but I got so many that I slowed that way down and Cheri doesn't get me any more unless it's something really unusual.  (I still use the one you sent me, sometimes playing with the kids.)  Books used to be a safe bet but now the chances are too high that I've already got it, so she has to ask.  We're both really hard to buy for,

We do have a TJ Maxx in town and Cheri and Karly go there once in a while.  We have a ton of clothes and shoe stores, but nooo, Karly's favorite is 50 miles away.  I'm an old Chicago hippy but for clothes, I tend to dress western style and shop exclusively, (and rarely) at a western store about 40 miles away, maybe every other year or so.  I don't wear out clothes very fast.  John
